The Justice League is a superhero team dedicated to protect Earth from crime and extraterrestrial threats. The League is led by Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
Following the Anti-Monitor Crisis all members were integrated into their new counterparts on Earth Prime.
History[]
Formation[]
Barry Allen came up with an idea to form a team of superpowered individuals, after witnessing a superhero team on Earth-2 named the "Justice Society of America" acting as a force of good during World War II. He told the hero Superman, with whom he previously defeated the villain Brainiac, about this and proposed to form a team to ensure Earth's safety.[1]
Several months later The Flash, Superman and Green Arrow teamed up to defeat an artificial intelligence called Amazo controlled by Lex Luthor. But after Amazo absorbed Superman's powers, the heroes retreated and went to Batman for help. They decided to activate Flash's idea of forming a super team. They recruited many heroes including Martin Manhunter and Vixen. The Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) refused to join them first,[2] but as it was seen later, he joined.[3]
Over the next few months, the League expanded beyond Earth, with connections from the Guardians of the Universe. They would also acquire themselves a base of operations, which they would use as their base, giving it the name the "Watchtower".[4]
Rann-Thanagarian war[]
While Superman and Wonder Woman were on a mission in deep space, Batman was not reachable and the Flash was on a mission himself, the remaining members of the League were on a strategic meeting aboard the Watchtower. During this, Martian Manhunter, Vixen and Green Arrow were surprised by the newly appointed Green Lantern John Stewart, who was brought to the Watchtower by his ring.[4]
Shocked and unprepared for such an event, the present League members did not hesitate to attack this intruder, but before the fight could escalate, with Stewart nearly severing Manhunters head with an energy construct, Green Arrow knocked him unconscious with an one of his arrows. After everyone calmed down, Stewart explained why he came to them and his ring notified them of Hal Jordans presumed death, which caused his ring to find John Stewart instead.[4]
In order to investigate this further, Arrow and Stewart would leave the planet in order to go to Oa, while Martian Manhunter and Vixen stayed in order to watch over Earth in the meantime. As they arrived on Oa, Green Arrow and Lantern discovered the demise of most, if not all, of the Green Lantern Corps, including the Guardians of the Universe. They went on to find out who was responsible for this and eventually, after meeting the Thanagarian warrior Shayera Hol and the Rannian hero Adam Strange, they found out Hal Jordan was alive and being held captive by the rogue Yellow Lantern Thaal Sinestro, who destroyed the Green Lanterns and wanted to use the Rannian technology known as the Zeta-Beam in order to annihilate both the planets Rann and Thanagar.[4]
The group managed to defeat Sinestro and his corps, but were betrayed by Hal Jordan, who was the true mastermind and had been possessed by the fear parasite Parallax. After John cut him off from his multiple power rings, Hal used his last ring to try to kill the other Green Lantern. Green Arrow managed to save John by shooting an arrow through Hal's heart, killing him in the process. After Rann and Thanagar were saved, John and Oliver returned to Earth, mourning Hal's death.[4]
