John Constantine is a mystic sorcerer and detective from the original timeline Pre-Second Flashpoint. He is indirectly responsible for the creation of the Multiverse and the release of the Anti-Monitors.
Physical Description[]
Constantine is a young blonde adult male. He wears a white shirt with red necktie under a brown trench coat with black trousers and black shoes. As the Pariah, he is elderly with white hair and a beard. He wears a green hoodie top with dark-blue pants and brown shoes.
History[]
The previous timeline[]
John Constantine is an occult warlock originating from Liverpool, England. He travels the world investigating supernatural occurrences and defending humanity from them. His main base of operations is the House of Mystery where he resides with the magic of the house's physical form Black Orchid. He also uses it to store mystical artifacts which are considered too dangerous in regular people's hands. He later becomes the lover and spouse of Zatanna, who helped Batman in recruiting John into a branch of the Justice League.
Constantine accompanied the League to Apokolips to help put an end to the New God Darkseid, only for them to be ambushed by the Paradoom-type Parademons Darkseid created to overpower them with those not killed taken to be made of service. Constantine watches in horror as Zatanna is viciously eaten alive by some Paradooms, assuming that he fled for his life when Zatanna actually sent him back to Earth as part of Batman's contingency plan.
Constantine spent the two years that followed in hiding with Etrigan before they are recruited by Raven and a depowered Superman, to help them find Damian Wayne for his help to break Batman free of Darkseid's brainwashing. Constanine joins the heroes in another raid to free the Justice League members that were forced into Darkseid's services, only to be killed by the freed Trigon when Raven lost control in a moment of rage over Damian being fatally injured by Darkseid. While dead, Constantine remembers the truth as Zatanna apologizes to him for using the compulsion spell before reviving him to finish the mission. Constantine helps Raven force Trigon out of Superman's body and allow the fully manifested demon to fight Darkseid while Cyborg sacrifices himself to send Apokolips into a black hole, trapping Darkseid and Trigon.
However, the damage that Darkseid's Reapers did to Earth is causing the planet to slowly die. Constantine convinces Flash, whose previous act of altering time created their current reality, to cause another Flashpoint to avert this crisis. Constantine placed a protection spell around Flash to prevent a repeat of a past variant of Darkseid detecting him and their universe. As the second Flashpoint engulfed all the heroes, Constantine finds himself back in the House of Mystery, clean shaven and with a shorter trench coat confused at what has just happened.
Becoming the Pariah[]
“ | Haven't had a ciggy in 100... No. 1000 years. Don't want to start that again. The worst part of quitting is the first 100 years | ” |

Due to convincing The Flash to reset the timeline[1], Constantine was transported to the House of Mystery by The Spectre and forced to be tormented by demonized versions of his friends. John eventually escapes the House of Mystery and is confronted by the Spectre, who reveals that he was actually protecting Constantine from the fate that universe itself was to inflict on him for his transgressions. The Spectre even revealed that the only reason Constantine was being attacked was because of his self loathing and guilt had warped the illusions the house created to give its owner some peace of mind. Horrified by the revelation, Constantine asks the Spectre to place him back in the house. But the Spectre states that it is beyond his power now as the universe demands recompense, watching a screaming Constantine being dragged off into a portal. [2]
Constantine appears on Earth-1 as a rambling homeless old man talking about the end of the world, becoming the Pariah cursed to witness the destruction of Multiverse. Before the formation of the Justice League, John was present when Barry first met Iris. [3]
A pair of thugs try to light John on fire, but he is saved due to the intervention of John Stewart. [4]
Crisis of Infinite Earths[]
On Earth-3, John intervenes when the Crime Syndicate is about to kill The Flash. He immobilizes a l of them before showing them the destruction of their earth, causing them to leave. the Flash asks him who he is, but John struggles to remember, only recalling that he and Barry did something that was responsible for the current situation. [3]
Barry runs into John while he and Iris are planning for their wedding. At Iris's suggestion, Barry tries to give him some money, but John places his head on Barry's head and sends him time-tripping. [3]
After a brief confrontation with John Stewart while fighting show demons and Psycho Pirate's attempted to turn the hero's fears and paranoia on themselves, John helped remind Constantine of his name and who he was. He then used his powers to disperse the Shadow Demon's and used his newly returned powers to de-age himself using a "Clean up spell" back to his physical prime. He however has not retained all his mystical knowledge and was dying for a cigarette stating that "I haven't had a ciggy in a thousand years. Ah! The toughest part of quitting is the first hundred years."
He then stands with the Justice League when the shadow demons form the Anti-Monitor.
Following using the extensive energy held within the Monitors ship, all remaining 52 Earth's were moved into a dimension known as "The Bleed" to hide from the Anti-Monitor. Constantine slipped away using his powers to an Earth that was in the "Western Era" and continues to drink at a saloon. He was then confronted by members of the Justice League, including Batman of Earth 1 and Doctor Fate of Earth 2.
Doctor Fate conjured a spell that would allow Batman to investigate Constantine's broken memories. It is revealed that before The Flash went back in time to create a Second Flashpoint, this time to kill Darkseid as an infant. Since Barry Allen in his character would not kill a baby, Constantine had earlier put a poison spell on him before he departed and as well as a protection spell to prevent a version of Darkseid detecting him while in the Speed Force. The poison spell worked by killing anybody who was in close proximity to the Flash, killing Parademons and baby Darkseid in the process.
However, as Darkseid is considered an important pillar in the universe; killing him caused a fracture in the universe, creating infinite universes starting from both world with and without Darkseid. These infinite multiverses of Earth were considered phenomenon of cancer universe as the universe can only have one Earth and since it was Constantine's spell that killed Darkseid, he was held liable for his punishment.
The team later accompanied Constantine to the Warworld to explain the cause of the Infinite Crisis and that the Anti Monitor is nothing but an antibody of the universe: destroying the universe only to restart. Constantine had the plan of using the Miracle Machine to create a 'Monoverse', thus he attempted to sacrifice himself in order to power the Miracle Machine needed for it to work. However, it doesn't work as it needed a great amount of energy far more than his to create a Monoverse.
After all of the remaining people moved into the Monoverse to merge with their counterparts, Constantine was the last one left, ready to enter and remark that he will end up in Hell due to his past actions. He then tells the Spectre that he will be damned for causing the Infinite Crisis. The Spectre replied while he delivered justice and the wrath of God, perhaps he can offer him hope instead. As the Spectre leaves, Constantine stands in between the Monoverse portal and the Spectre and chooses to follow the Spectre while Warworld crumbles, leaving Constantine's ultimate fate unknown.

Notes[]
- John and The Spectre are the only characters aware of the existence of the previous timeline.
- The Flash did not merge with his previous self like in the Flashpoint event.
- As it was revealed later that Constantine secretly placed a spell on Barry Allen that would kill whomever came close to him. As he knew Barry could never take a life and would not go through with killing the infant Darkseid. The universe then released the Anti-Monitor's to eliminate more than one Earth which was created where Darkseid did not exist as he is a fixed point in time and must exist.
- Upon de-aging himself, it's notable that John looks sharper and less goofy from when he was trapped in the House of Mystery. This is likely because he was stuck between the more 3D DCAMU and more 2D Tommorowverse; he had yet to fully transition to the new universe look.
- John Constantine appears to take elements from the character Pariah in the comics. Pariah was a scientist who was forced to watch the destruction of countless Earths in the Crisis on Infinite Earths event due to his past sin of attempting to witness the creation of the universe.
- The main difference is that Constantine intended to heal the damage done to the universe by Darkseid, by placing a spell on The Flash that would effectively turn him into a walking virus that would kill an infant Darkseid, thus preventing his rise to power. However, unbeknownst to Constantine because Darkseid is meant to exist, his death rather than alter history as intended instead caused the Universe to fracture creating the Multiverse.
- As there are no variants of him during the Crisis. The universe prevented Constantine from ever existing across the multiverse and foolishly endangering it yet again.
