Eons ago, a group of Maltusians called Guardians of the Universe divided the entire Universe into thousands of sectors, in order to patrol them with their Green Lantern Corps. Even though the Corps stayed active and fulfilled its duty even many years later, there were still war like the one between Thanagar and Rann, during which Rannian hero Adam Strange went missing, were still able to happen without Lantern interference. Also, natural catastrophes like the destruction of planet Krypton or the near total annihilation of the Martian species went without aide of the Green Lanterns. One of, if not the most relevant and important planets in this Universe was however Earth, from Sector 2814. On it, there were not only multiple prominent beings from all over the galaxy, like J'onn J'onzz, one of the last sons of Mars or the two last surviving Kryptonians, Kal-El and Kara Zor-El, but it also had its own defenders and heroes, such as the vigilante of Gotham City, Batman, the fastest man alive who called himself The Flash, the king of Atlantis, Aquaman and even two of the greatest Green Lanterns, John Stewart and Hal Jordan, though the latter was unfortunately turned against the Corps and had helped in destroying it. These individuals, along with other heroes like Wonder Woman, Green Arrow and Vixen, formed the Justice League, a group of superheroes who acted as Earth's main line of defense against threats, extraterrestrial or local. There were also many intergalactic criminals, villains and monsters battled by the League or its separate members, including Lobo, Brainiac, Thaal Sinestro and Parallax. During the League's time, there were also disruptions in Sector 814 from unknown origins which were spreading.
Future[]
A thousand years later, there was another group of heroes called the Legion of Super-Heroes, who even came into contact with Superman through an unknown sort of time travel.

In contrast to most other continuities, Earth-1 appears to be divided into at least a five-digit number of Sectors, rather than the common 3600 Sectors.[1]
